This is a window into our Tennessee world mainly for our Texas family and friends that we are now very far away from. We miss everyone dearly but hope this helps those we love feel a little closer to us in some small way. We are so grateful that this random job relocation has allowed the four of us to spend much more time together as a family...And that makes it all worth it. Our life isn't extremely exciting, but it's our way of life, and we will always have these moments to remember.
My husband started watching MMA a few months before I did. I didn't care for the blood or guys laying on each other, so I just refused to watch it. I generally am a huge sports fan and don't mind football being on all day or watching ESPN at any given time. I think growing up with older brothers just trained my brain to love sports more than the average girl.
When it came to MMA, I didn't know anything about it and really couldn't stomach seeing lots of blood, and I sure wouldn't allow our kids to see any of it. Well, one random evening I happen to be walking across the room during a fight and briefly caught a glimpse of this incredible head kick that practically flat-lined a guy. I stopped right then and stood there to see multiple replays. Holy....!!! Man, that would be so cool to be able to do that to someone!
In case you're wondering, it was the head kick by Gabriel Gonzaga that made Cro Cop's leg buckle and his foot twist around like a pretzel...And Joe Rogan was going nuts as they showed it over and over again. Remember? That was so awesome!
That very moment sparked my interest and my husband ran with it. He quickly busted out a Chuck Liddell documentary because he knew I would like him after I watched it. He was right. Before I knew it we were watching old seasons of The Ultimate Fighter every night in bed. I'm always up for a reality show that has some sort of physical challenge, so I was easily hooked. We now have every season. I would root for my favorites and despise my not so favorites. Once I understood how hard these fighters train and how much athleticism the sport requires, I was in awe...It's just simply amazing at what these guys can do!
Of course, there are so many different aspects of the sport that I thoroughly enjoy, but that's how my love of mixed martial arts began...And the rest, as they say, is history!
